Palmyra rose from the Syrian desert as one of the great trading cities of the ancient world, its stone columns still standing against the sky. These earrings mirror those columns, one tourmaline stone on top of the other, changing colour as they rise, held fast by golden granulations. The tourmaline contained in these earrings was mined in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan and has been traded for centuries, a chameleon stone often mistaken for ruby, emerald or sapphire.
